Keratitis is an inflammation usually caused by an infection in the cornea of the eye and can be accompanied by pain.

This inflammation is easier to treat when detected early. Conversely, if left untreated it can even cost vision.

“Keratitis is very common in contact lens wearers, as well as herpes, but unfortunately many people neglect it and only come to see them when it becomes unbearable,” says Dr. Kanellopoulos.

Immediate medical control attention is required when redness spreads rapidly in the eye and is accompanied by swelling and change in vision. Do not neglect or delay the medical advice, because you are afraid to go to the hospital because of the coronavirus “, recommends Mr. Kanellopoulos. “Some injuries seem innocent, but in reality they are very serious and the slightest delay can exacerbate the problem.” Besides, you can always be evaluated by your ophthalmologist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”diskolia”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text el_class=”capitalize” css=”.vc_custom_1627563941338{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Difficulty driving at night

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1627563958087{margin-top: 10px !important;}”]When vision gradually decreases at night and various objects become indistinguishable, the person may need to re-evaluate corrective glasses, but also suffer from cataracts, pigmentation or diabetic retinopathy.
Fortunately, refractive errors, myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism are the most common causes of this difficulty. All three have difficulty seeing at night, especially when one is not wearing the correct corrective glasses or contact lenses. Thus, diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of new cases of blindness in people aged 20-65 years. Women with gestational diabetes in particular may experience rapid onset or worsening of diabetic retinopathy.

The good news is that almost 90% of eye and vision damage due to diabetes can be prevented, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). “The key to prevention is good blood sugar control in conjunction with preventive eye examinations, which must be done once a year” even if this has not been made clear to you by your diabetologist.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row el_id=”egkimosini”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text el_class=”capitalize” css=”.vc_custom_1627564007887{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

Pregnancy & eyes

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1694686304824{margin-top: 10px !important;}”]Most pregnant women are well aware that the hormonal and physical changes of pregnancy often cause nausea and lower back pain, but few know that vision can also be affected. The mildest problems that can occur are dry eyes and blurred vision.
“In women prone to dry eyes, the condition can worsen and create problems in everyday life or make it difficult to use contact lenses on those pregnant women who wear them,” she says. “The solution is to use artificial tears to lubricate the eyes, and especially women who wear contact lenses should consult their doctor to make sure that contact lens fluids are safe for use in pregnancy.”

Blurred vision is due to fluid retention which is a common occurrence in pregnancy. Retention can lead to thickening and change in the shape of the cornea of the eye, resulting in any existing refractive problems are exacerbated (eg myopia temporarily increases slightly) and / or the images may appear distorted. Both blurring and dry eye subside after childbirth and vision is usually restored. However, a re-examination of vision is required a year later to confirm that no permanent problems, such as an increase in myopia, have been caused.

With our pioneering published study in a large number of pregnant women, we didn’t observe changes in those who had previously undergone successful laser myopia correction surgery (usually LASIK).

Our center implements world – leading thorough control, ideally in the 7th month of pregnancy, to all expectant mothers. The OPTOS technology we use, makes this test completely painless, as it does not require drug dilation of the pupil of each eye. With special mirrors it captures lateral shots at the back of each eye through the normal, usually small opening, pupil. It then “synthesizes” the above 40 to 50 images and as a result provides us with a very wide (120 °) peripheral endoscopy both for the possible diagnosis of problems that should be taken into account in a normal birth, and for their photographic documentation.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”13045″
