Dr. Evangelia V. Garagani is an Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in glaucoma.
She entered the Medical School of Athens in 2001 (in the first 35 of the year) and graduated in 2007 with a degree of Very Good.
After completing her studies, she moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, where she worked as a research associate in the Glaucoma department of the university hospital as well as at the Lausanne Polytechnic. The research project involved a pioneering anti-glaucoma valve that is now used in patients with very encouraging results in controlling intraocular pressure.
She then worked for a year as a specialist in General Surgery at the hospital in Lausanne.
She completed the first two years of specialization in ophthalmology at the University Hospital of the same city. She also had the opportunity to work in the renowned department of ophthalmology oncology next to the distinguished professor Leonidas Zografos.
She then went on to specialize in Sutton Hospital in London.
She then worked as a fellow in the Cataract and Emergency Department at Moorfields Eye Hospital, gaining extensive experience in cataract surgery and in dealing with difficult and complex cases.
For the past 3 years she has worked as a curator in the Glaucoma Department of Moorfields Eye Hospital alongside world-renowned glaucoma specialists. Her expertise and experience in the treatment of glaucoma were acquired there, as well as the large number of surgeries she performed, such as trabeculectomies and anti-glaucoma valve implants, are invaluable. In addition, she gained experience in the emerging field of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery.
Throughout her years as a curator at the London Ophthalmology Hospital, she has been involved in research protocols for the treatment of glaucoma, as well as in training younger colleagues in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Today she works as a specialist glaucoma specialist at Laser Vision in Athens and also holds the position of Deputy Director in the Glaucoma Department of the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital in Lausanne, Switzerland.
