Dr
Kanellopoulos has been a pioneer in laser vision
correction. Today's technique options for laser
vision correction include 2 major categories.
First LASIK; which is a technique that involves
an initial incision to the cornea either by blade
or by laser (femtosecond laser) and is still
the most popular technique internationally.
Second a group
of techniques that involve SURFACE ablation.
This group includes: PRK (photorefractive keratectomy),
PTK (phototherapeutic keratectomy), LASEK and
epi-LASIK.
Dr. Kanellopoulos
has participated in innovating investigative
work on LASIK as well as surface ablation techniques
internationally since the early 90's. He has performed
thousands of successful procedures in the United States
as well as internationally.
As an External Diseases,
Cornea Transplantation expert he often consults on
minor problems with the procedure, and frequently travels
internationally to consult on LASIK surgeon training,
new techniques and laser equipment development. He
has been certified and currently using most excimer
laser technologies starting from the Sunnit excimer,
the Visx s2, s3, s4, the Alcon LADARVISION models,
the Bausch and Lomb TECHNOLAS 217b, 217c, and 217z.
He has been a pioneer user of the Wavelight excimer
lasers since 2000 (the 200Hz Allegretto, and the 400Hz
Eye-Q). He has been a consultant with Wavelight Technologie
company since. He has conducted research and development
of innovations with this technology. He currently uses
in Europe the technologies of Wavefront-optimised,
Asphericity-adjusted, Wavefront-guided and Topography-guided
laser vision correction. He has presented and published
numerous articles in regard to the pioneering applications
with these technologies.
Dr.
Kanellopoulos has been one of the leading surgeons
working with the Allegretto-Wave 400 Hz Eye-Q flying
spot laser and customized laser vision correction (Click
